Allegiance and why: To his family. Family’s everything, after all.
Social Status and/or Occupation: Merchant with vague political ambitions
Brief physical description of your character: Miles is a handsome, good-looking man, with brown eyes and dark hair he wears in a queue. He grew a goatee, contrary to the rules of fashion, because he thinks it makes him look dashing and adventurous. Miles dresses down as much as he can and, given the choice, will stroll around without his coat (gasp!).
Brief description of your characters history, including family: Miles is the elder brother of Katherine Rochester, and the only son of the Rochester family. He’s a pleasant, good-natured flirt, very inclined to go with the flow and keep the peace. Miles got along with everyone when he was younger, and still gets along very well with most people. He’s inclined to be friendly, cheerful, and sociable and to gloss over unpleasantness. Miles has always been very perceptive when it comes to people, and was very eager-to-please when younger, since he was an only child and realized his father was unhappy.

Katherine’s birth was probably the best thing to ever happen for Miles, since it made his father really happy for the first time Miles could remember. Miles dotes of Katherine and would do just about anything for her. Miles would hate to admit it, but he needs to take care of someone and Katherine has always filled that need.

Though he is intelligent, he’s much too laid-back to ever care much for his studies and his decided lack of ambition led him to breeze through Oxford, having spent more time making friends and learning to please than studying or attending class. Miles had a definite talent for compromise and was very creative, which greatly pleased his father who, when not grooming Miles to take over the family business, tried to convince his son to take up politics. When his father died, however, Miles’s few political ambitions withered away (he likes traveling and he likes entertaining, so he entertained some ideas of being a diplomat) and he became intensely protective of his family. He let Katherine publish under his name and took over the business and the household affairs, and, to keep them all safe, moved the family to London.

As of the moment, he is perfectly content to expand his father’s business and to avoid politics as best he can.

One or two plots which you would like to play out in the community: Miles perhaps attaining political office (despite his best, passive-aggressive attempts to avoid it), and finding out just what Katherine’s been doing. Maybe meeting Harry, since Harry killed his father?
